the bedouin’s path
َكُلُوا مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُم بِآيَاتِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ
“So eat of that upon which the Name of Allah has been mentioned, if you truly believe in His signs.”
Surat Al-Anʿām 6:118
From Harvest to Table
Reviving the Prophetic Way of Sacrifice
In the prophetic tradition, slaughter was more than preparation for food. It was a practice of mindfulness, mercy, and responsibility. Through this workshop, American Bedouin teaches participants the classical fiqh, ethics, and hands-on skills of halal slaughter. Every student performs the supervised slaughter of a chicken and observes the careful processing of a lamb, cultivating not only competence but also reverence, discipline, and gratitude for God's provisions.
Program Overview
This half-day workshop provides both the spiritual and technical foundation for halal slaughter. Students learn the fiqh and adab (etiquette) of dhabīḥah, the deeper meanings behind taking life for provision, and the prophetic principles of mercy, responsibility, and stewardship. Through classroom instruction, hands-on chicken slaughter, and observation of lamb processing, participants cultivate skill, reverence, and confidence in performing this sacred act.
