Youth Mentored Hunt
Youth mentored hunt at
Occoquan Bay, VA
We’re excited to invite youth to take part in a mentored deer hunt at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, January 25th — a unique opportunity to learn and experience hunting in a safe, educational, and supportive environment.
This program is designed for youth ages 8–17, each must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participation is limited to very limited for this inaugural year, ensuring plenty of one-on-one time with mentors.
The hunt will take place in a closed refuge area. Before the hunt, we will hold an Orientation Day on January 10th, where mentors and mentees will be matched. Orientation will cover essential topics such as hunting ethics, safety, and responsible practices, as well as a hands-on range session. This will be a archery hunt using compound bows and/or crossbows.
Whether you are new to hunting or looking for a guided first experience, this program emphasizes respect for nature, safety, and learning in community. We welcome youth and families of all backgrounds to join us for this meaningful day outdoors.
Please note: Registration does not guarantee placement in the mentored hunt. Due to limited space, selections will be confirmed after review. Families will be notified of acceptance no later than December 26th, 2025. Once confirmed, you’ll receive a link to complete your $125 registration payment.
